THE TAKING TIME PROCESS - OUR TECHNIQUE
Students come to Cedars Academy with an impaired ability to control impulsivity. We believe it is important to teach our students the importance of inserting a thought between an impulse and an action. In practice, when a student acts in a way which is impulsive or not socially appropriate, he or she is asked to stop the behavior, (“Take some Time”), and reflect upon why he or she was asked to do so. When the student is able to articulate what actions would have been more suitable to the situation, he or she is allowed to resume participation in the activity. At Cedars, Taking Time is a practice woven through all we do, whether in the classroom or during a game. We never miss an opportunity to teach these approaches to leadership to our students. They learn and internalize these lessons, resulting in their progress to the top of the Leadership Pyramid, allowing them more freedom and privileges. Taking Time™ works!
