SETTING, FACILITIES AND HOUSING

Cedars Academy, a coed college preparatory boarding school is located on 73 peaceful acres on the Delmarva Peninsula in the state of Delaware. We take full advantage of the fact that we are only two hours from Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. by enjoying all the many cultural advantages and fun that those big cities offer. Students at Cedars Academy are part of the local community and volunteer for agencies such as the Humane Society and local theatre. There is a hospital and emergency care facility within seven miles of our campus.

Our students enjoy an active outdoor life in our beautiful rural setting. They participate in equine therapy, swim in season, and engage in cooperative sports. Students begin each day by exercising before school begins.

ACADEMIC FACILITIES

Classes are conducted in the Annie Oakley Building, which has five classrooms. We have facilities for classes in art, drama and music. Students are in classes of six to eight per teacher. Each child receives individual attention and achieves the goals of his or her Individual Learning Plan.

OUR RESIDENCES

Our students live with house parents in a homelike setting in one of two two-story houses. The boys live in the Elizabeth Barrett Browning House and the girls in the Sacajawea House. Our homes have six bedrooms and four bathrooms upstairs. Students share rooms with one to three other students. We encourage our students to actively participate in social activities. Downstairs in each house is a kitchen, a dining room, a study with individual desks and a living room. The kitchen is similar to a large kitchen in a private home. We eat family style around the large dining room table. Students cooperate in the maintenance of a neat household. Students thrive in this atmosphere of caring and community building.
